A main aspect of the IDEFICS project consisted in the elaboration of evidence-based guidelines on preventing diet- and lifestyle-related diseases for different groups (consumers, channels, policy makers). The IDEFICS cohort provides valuable data to investigate the interplay of social, environmental, genetic, physiological and behavioural factors in the development of major diet- and lifestyle ination. The Pan-European IDEFICS / I.Family children cohort is registered under ISRCTN62310987. The present analysis is based on data from baseline and follow-up surveys of the IDEFICS study as well as the I.Family study (T3) from seven study regions in three countries.

Families contributed to these large studies and provided important insights for health research.
